A late slip needs a Quebec return correction

Choose My Account, authorized software or TP-1.R-V, explain the changed amount and check whether the federal return also needs attention.

A corrected slip or forgotten receipt can require a change after a Quebec return has been filed. Start with the return you submitted, the assessment and the new document. Identify what actually changed before opening another form.

Revenu Québec says to request a modification rather than file a second original return. The right route depends on the year, the line and the status of the return.

Choose the correction route

As checked in October 2026:

  • My Account for individuals allows changes to specified lines for 2022 through 2025. Check the line list for the year concerned.
  • Authorized software can amend 2022, 2023, 2024 or 2025 returns, using the same software that prepared the return. Do not also mail a paper copy after transmitting the amendment online.
  • TP-1.R-V by mail is the route for older years and situations the online service does not support, with supporting documents.

If the return is still being processed, you can wait to use the online service or mail TP-1.R-V. Bankruptcy, certain interprovincial business returns and an existing objection or appeal require particular attention to the listed restrictions. Correction methods and exclusions.

Explain the revised amount

For a paper request, use a separate form for each tax year. Identify the line, the amount previously reported, the adjustment and the revised amount, then explain why it changed. Sign the request and include the supporting documents specified by the form.

For example, suppose line 130 originally included $120 of interest and a missed $75 amount brings the correct total to $195. The adjustment is +$75; the revised line amount is $195. Neither figure is a promised refund or the final additional tax.

Where a deduction or credit needs a calculation, calculate the revised claim first. The receipt total is not automatically the amount that belongs on the return. Revenu Québec calculates other affected lines from the requested change. TP-1.R-V and its instructions.

Keep a readable copy of the documents and explanation you submit.

Check the year and the deadline

A request for a refund or reduction generally can concern one of the ten preceding calendar years. In 2026, that normally means 2016 through 2025. The solidarity credit and some other requests have different limits, so ten years is not a universal deadline. A correction that creates a balance can also bring interest from the original payment due date. Deadline and interest instructions.

Keep the transmission confirmation or mailing record. When the result arrives, compare it with the requested lines and save the new assessment beside the earlier version.

Check the federal return separately

The same missing income or receipt may affect the federal return, but Quebec and federal lines do not always have identical rules or amounts. Review both rather than copying a number without checking it. The CRA has its own return-change process; our federal adjustment guide explains those options.

If the issue is disagreement with Revenu Québec's interpretation of the facts or law, review the objection process and deadline. A correction request or a phone conversation should not be treated as a reason to let an objection deadline pass.
